Leg amputation to lead to damages claim?

Personal injury compensation may be sought by a lorry driver who needed part of his leg amputated following an accident at work.

Robert Deverell was seriously injured when a forklift truck reversed over his right leg while he was at premises owned by Cargo Services in Cardiff in June 2010.

At the time of the incident, Mr Deverell was waiting for his truck to be loaded with steel beams measuring 18 metres in length when the forklift reversed, leaving him with devastating injuries.

The professional's limb was so badly damaged it needed to be amputated below the knee, while he also suffered a fractured wrist in the accident.

Consequently, he has been unable to return to his job with Dyfed Steels - a firm with more than 260 employees - and an investigation by the Health and Safety Executive found Cargo Services had failed to properly segregate vehicles and pedestrians at its site.
