Govt establishes new health and safety panel

A new committee is being set up by the government in order to combat the misuse of health and safety regulations, it has emerged.

It was announced yesterday (April 11th) that the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is to manage the new Myth Busters Challenge Panel (MBCP), which has been designed by the coalition to curb the number of "ridiculous or disproportionate" rules faced by individuals and employers.

The body will aim to clearly differentiate between protecting people from real hazards to their wellbeing and those that do not actually need to be covered by legislation.

To coincide with the creation of the MBCP, the HSE has published a list of common health and safety myths still believed by many people, such as employees not being able to put up Christmas decorations in their office.

Chris Grayling, minister for employment, stated that "common sense is the key to successful health and safety".
