Schoolgirl could receive £13k for burns

A girl who was burned during an accident at school could receive up to £13,000 in personal injury compensation, it has emerged.

According to the Leicester Mercury, the youngster was hurt when hot baked beans were spilled on her in the canteen at a school in Leicestershire and a damages claim has now been made against the local authority.

New figures from the council have shown it has faced 63 compensation cases made after injuries were sustained at its schools over the course of the last four years.

A freedom of information request by the news source also revealed that damages of as much as £43,000 could be granted to a pupil who may be permanently blind after a classmate threw sand in his face.

In addition, the council has accepted it could have to award up to £18,000 to a child who sustained a facial injury when they tripped over an umbrella while playing.
