Park warden granted up to £70k compensation

A park warden has been awarded personal injury compensation of up to £70,000 after he slipped over during an accident at work.

The anonymous professional sustained a serious back injury - as well as problems with his neck, arms and wrist - when he fell while putting up signs in a public park warning people to be careful of the ice and snow in January 2010.

He subsequently took legal action against his employer - Leicester City Council - on the grounds that the body had failed to provide him with adequate equipment with which to complete his duties safely.

The local authority has since purchased some 150 pairs of shoes with special grip for its outdoor employees to wear in dangerous conditions.

Gary Garner of the city branch of Unite - a union with more than one million members - commented that the man's compensation should help him get his life back on track.
