Worker to seek compensation after suffering serous injuries 2452

A man could seek personal injury compensation after sustaining serious injuries in an accident at work.

The employee of Llanelli construction firm WA Bowler - which was established in 1983 - had been installing a beam and block floor when he was hit by one of the concrete beams.

Along with a co-worker, the male had been using lifting straps to manually hoist the object, but his colleague accidently let go.

As well as sustaining a hairline fracture of his pelvis, the man also now suffers from paralysis to the nerve endings in his left leg.

Health and Safety Executive inspector Hayley Healey observed the firm had not taken reasonable steps to ensure the safety of their employees.

She added this failure led to a "completely preventable incident" and bemoaned the fact injuries of this nature are "widespread" when manual handling is involved because of the high degree of risk.
