Stress at work can have a negative influence on all aspects of an individual's life if it is allowed to fester and get worse.
That is according to Neil Shah, director of the Stress Management Society, who believes that feeling such anxiety has a "physical, mental and emotional impact" on the general wellbeing of people.
In the wake of the recession, many professionals have found themselves under greater levels of pressure in their jobs as companies across all sectors strive to do more with less.
And Mr Shah explained that this has an affect both in the short and long-term, as on a day-to-day basis the illness can weaken people's digestive and immune systems while over a longer period it can alter "interpersonal relationships".
This comes after the expert stated that one of the "primary reasons" behind the growing trend of stress at work is the 24/7 nature of modern-day jobs caused by the use of smartphones and emails.
