Stress at work 'causing many Britons to wake up unhappy'

Stress at work is causing a large proportion of the population to begin every day in a bad mood, new research has established.

According to a study published yesterday (February 14th) by YouGov on behalf of PomeGreat, there is a clear link between the prospect of having to go to work and the state of mind individuals are in of a morning.

The survey - which involved questioning more than 2,000 adults across the UK - established that more than one-third of the working population fear the sound of their alarm clock and stay in bed too long to escape their job for a few extra minutes.

Dr Dorian Dugmore, who helped conduct the study, commented: "Work has become so stressful now that more and more of us are producing the hormone cortisol in reaction to stress and becoming more irritable, anxious [and] aggressive."

This comes after figures showed that stress at work is becoming an increasingly significant issue among NHS staff in Wales.
