Hand injury could result in damages claim 2443

An accident at work in which a man had two fingers amputated could result in him pursuing a claim for personal injury compensation.

The unnamed 34-year-old lost the majority of the ring and index digits on his right hand when his arm was pulled into the moving parts of a mechanical lathe at premises owned by Proseal UK in Adlington in March 2010.

At the time of the incident, the professional was polishing a piece of metal for Proseal UK - a firm established in Macclesfield in 1998 that now has more than 130 employees - when his hand came into contact with the dangerous equipment.

An investigation conducted by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) found that he has wrongly been allowed by his employer to wear gloves while carrying out this job.

Lisa Lewis of the HSE commented: "This was a needless injury which could easily have been avoided if Proseal had followed health and safety guidance."
