A woman has won compensation after complications during surgery on her knee.
Wendy Perrott was awarded a five-figure sum after an operation on her leg at Withybush Hospital was not effective and she had to go under the knife again just a few months later, reports the Western Telegraph.
Ms Perrott's husband John stated they would not have pursued the claim for compensation had the hospital apologised for its mistakes straight away.
A spokesman for Hywel Dda Health Board - which provides care to around 372,320 people throughout the Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire areas - said: "We'd like to reassure our patients that the health board reviews all incidents and puts in place measures to ensure they cannot happen again."
He apologised for any distress suffered by Ms Perrott, as well as explaining procedures at Withybush Hospital have been overhauled as a result, with the surgery undergone by the patient no longer carried out at the facility.
