Ploughcroft Building Services was fined £10,000 and ordered to pay £10,937 in prosecution costs after 24-year-old Chris Buck fell 2.6 metres through a fragile skylight on to a concrete floor.
He suffered a back injury, as well as hurting his neck and has been unable to return to work as a result of the incident.
Mr Buck said he had a lucky escape and did not like to think about what could have happened.
"I could have quite easily have landed on my head or on children below, which could have led to serious injuries," he added.
The roofer could be set to seek compensation as a result of his injuries now that Ploughcroft Building Services has been prosecuted.
According to figures from the Health and Safety Executive, over 4000 major injuries were caused by falls from height at work in 2008/09.
