According to Kevin Friery, clinical director at Right Corecare, managers must be tuned in to the mental and emotional needs of their employees in the aftermath of the global economic downturn.
Mr Friery explained it is "really important" for bosses to offer high levels of support to anyone within their organisation feeling under excessive pressure, as otherwise they may face a situation further down the line where their entire workforce is "burnt out" due to stress-related illnesses.
He noted that many people react to times of stress by thinking "they better work all the hours available to get some money", but added that managers are able to inject a sense of perspective into such feelings.
This comes after the British Standards Institution recently produced new guidelines in order to help bosses assess the psychological health of their workers.
