William Jones required an operation to correct the damage caused by a workplace prank in 2006 and has been unable to continue his career as a lead operator at the TRW Systems car parts factory ever since, the Hartlepool Mail reports.
Mr Jones, a man of 46 years of age, needed fusion surgery following an incident in which a "hefty colleague" jumped on him as part of a practical joke as he bent down to retrieve a tool at the depot of the firm, which employs 60,000 people in 200 facilities globally.
As a result, the former mechanic now relies in his family and friends for daily help due to his restricted level of mobility, the news source added.
"I refuse to accept that I've suffered an injury which means that I will never return to work," he commented.
