Manufacturer to seek burns and scarring damages?

A personal injury compensation claim could be forthcoming from a man who sustained burns and scarring during an accident at work.

Nigel Gibbon, a security safe manufacturer who is 44 years of age, sustained the injury as he worked at Shropshire-based firm SMP Security while operating a flocking machine in order to fix soft lining to the safe.

Due to the fact that his employer did not carry out a proper risk assessment on the work, Mr Gibbon unwittingly used an adhesive to apply the nylon tape, which resulted in a flammable atmosphere being created inside the safe.

As a result, he sustained second degree burns to his left hand and wrist and now needs surgery in order to repair tendon damage on the limb, meaning that he may be eligible for a damages settlement for his ordeal.

According to figures collated by the Health and Safety Executive, 251 people suffered serious injuries at work in Shropshire in 2009-10.
