Scarring from trainers leads to damages award

Burns and scarring caused by a pair of trainers has resulted in a man receiving a personal injury compensation settlement.

According to the Yorkshire Post, Chris Heleine required hospital treatment after his feet became sore and blistered when he wore his new Sperry Top-Sider shoes by manufacturer Collective Brands - a firm established four years ago - in April 2009.

Mr Heleine purchased the footwear - which cost around £170 per pair - in Leeds before heading off on holiday to Menorca, but suffered these health problems the first time he wore them.

He had to go to hospital every day for a week to have the dressings changed on his feet and has subsequently been left with scarring.

The man then contacted Russell Jones & Walker (RJW) to pursue a claim for damages against the company and has now been granted a four-figure sum for his ordeal.

Christian Shotton of RJW commented: "We hope this action will remind manufacturers of their legal duty."
