Man to seek compensation after electric shock

A worker may seek personal injury compensation after his firm was prosecuted after he suffered an electric shock.

The man, who does not want to be named, had been employed on a building site in Wigan when he cut through a live cable and the resulting jolt left him unconscious.

Since the accident at work, he has suffered from severe psychological trauma and an investigation by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has found the employee was told there was no power running through the cable.

The company he was hired by - Wainhomes, which builds homes in the north-west area - had conducted a constructed plan, but failed to properly manage the risk facing its workers.

Thomas Merry, the investigating inspector at HSE, said: "This was a serious incident which has left one worker with psychological scarring, but it could easily have resulted in several people being badly injured or even killed."
