The unnamed eight-year-old sustained a severe liver injury as well as abdominal bleeding and had to stay in hospital for more than a week after an incident in Paisley - a town located around ten miles from Glasgow - in April 2009.
This occurred when the youngster and some friends managed to gain access to a construction site near his new home as developer BDW Trading allowed people to move in to completed abodes while they finished off the remaining properties.
An investigation by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) established he was struck by some timber roof trusses that dropped from a storage area at the site.
Gerry McCulloch of the HSE commented: "If the company had taken the straightforward precaution of fencing off the construction site, the children would not have been able to get into the area."
