Broken back after fall from height at work

Broken back to lead to damages claim 2345

Anthony Strong suffered a broken back in an accident at work while installing pipes needed for a new moulding machine at premises owned by Anson Packaging.

He was subcontracted to do the work by Cambs Compressor Engineering at the time of the accident. For part of this project, Mr Strong had to operate around 6.5 metres above ground level and was unable to use his safety harness, due to the lack of suitable attachment points on the surface at this level.

The 24-year-old subsequently slipped between beams on the ceiling and dropped to the floor below, fracturing his spine, skull and ribs.

Both Anson and Cambs Compressor have now admitted breaching health and safety regulations, meaning Mr Strong can now claim compensation for his back injury and for lost earnings.

Gavin Bull, inspector at the Health and Safety Executive said,"Falls from height are one of the most common, yet preventable, causes of injuries at work."
