Mother seeking damages after pothole incident

An instance of slipping and tripping caused by a pothole has resulted in a mother seeking personal injury compensation from a local authority.

According to the Shields Gazette, eight-year-old Levy Taylor suffered bruising and swelling when she fell over one of the hazards and, as a result, her parent Donna Taylor is now taking legal action against South Tyneside Council, a body led by councillor Iain Malcolm.

The child was walking home from school with a friend last month when the incident occurred and an ambulance was called to the scene to provide treatment for her.

She was taken home and professionals advised her mother to apply ice to the affected area, which included her hip and knee.

Ms Taylor told the news source her daughter had been "lucky" as her injuries could have been much worse.

"I dread to think how bad a fall could have been for someone who was elderly," she added.
