Mother launches road safety campaign

A safety campaign has been launched by a mother with the aim of reducing the number of road traffic accidents in one area of the north of England.

According to the BBC, Leasa Ward has been inspired into action after her son Mitchell was hit by a car and injured on a road in the Manor region of Sheffield in June.

Ms Ward told the news source there have been numerous similar incidents in the area since she has lived there and insisted that the local council's preventative measures do not go far enough.

Following the incident involving her son, an illuminated sign has been erected on the street to warn drivers of their speed.

However, the resident feels this is insufficient and urged the authorities to be more proactive.

"Something needs to be done quickly before something else happens," she added.

Recently, statistics from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service revealed that the number of road traffic accidents taking place on the island is on the rise this year.
