Managers 'need to be proactive to tackle stress'

Managers need to be proactive to tackle stress 2269

Companies have been urged to be more proactive in their attempts to tackle the burgeoning problem of stress at work.

According to John Telfer, managing director of Inspiring Business Performance (IBP), mental anxiety in professional environments across all sectors in the UK has never been more prevalent due to the current economic climate, Fresh Business Thinking reports.

And with this in mind, Mr Telfer indicated it is essential for managers to be aware of how they can go about combating this issue to make sure their company continues to perform strongly.

The expert stated that focusing on achieving engagement is a good idea at the moment, meaning that bosses should be considering the possibility of implementing initiatives such as more flexible working as this can help ease stress.

"Be honest ... if employees know what is going on, they can pull together and will often have innovative ideas to improve the situation," he added.

This comes after the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development told managers who ignore stress at work they are running the risk of losing their best members of staff.
